Air Square

Conceived as a mobile urban sanctuary, it responds to two growing challenges facing our cities: the lack of inviting public spaces and increasing exposure to urban heat. Its circular form creates an immediate new destination, inviting people to pause, gather and rediscover overlooked parts of the city. Through a temporary intervention, Air Square also explores the potential of sites awaiting longer-term transformation.

Developed by KOGAA in collaboration with hot-air balloon manufacturer KUBICEK, the pavilion combines a modular plywood structure with a large inflatable ring. Measuring 14 metres in diameter and six metres in height, the installation provides generous shade while remaining open and accessible from every direction. Integrated seating supports everyday use, performances, markets and spontaneous gatherings. After dark, the inflatable ring becomes an illuminated landmark, bringing light and activity to its surroundings.
